What is Anxiety? 3 Simple Amrutam Tips to deal with Anxiety

Anxiety, as we generally understand, is synonymous with the feeling of worry or fear.

According to American Psychological Association, “People with anxiety disorders usually have recurring intrusive thoughts or concerns. They may avoid certain situations out of worry. They may also have physical symptoms such as sweating, trembling, dizziness or a rapid heartbeat”.If you find your thoughts running haywire in all directions – when peace and calm become incomprehensible words in your dictionary – then, there is a little bit of anxiety or maybe more, which has found its way in your life.

What is Anxiety according to Ayurveda?

Ayurveda has a deeper and a philosophical understanding of what anxiety is.

According to Ayurveda, the primary cause of all disease is an attachment to material aspect to creation, this attachment is non-perceivable yet very real.
The consequences of this attachment are Fear and Desire.
Acute Anxiety according to Ayurveda falls under the category of Unmada- Insanity, it is caused by derangement of Doshas- Vatta, Pitta, and Kapha and results in a distracted state of Manas- Mind.

Prajanapardha i.e. acting out of ignorance or transgression against knowledge is another cause of acute anxiety, according to Ayurveda.
